The next episode for Thursday

We will be working on the Siren episode come Thursday -

This episode has been modernized in many ways... recently in a Charmed episode... but the idea of women enchanting men using their voices and bodies is not uncommon.  Think if you remember any other times when this theme has been used and post to this blog.

prereading activity.

Well, I do remember one time at the beggining of the Odyssey when Calypso seduced Odysseus to cheat on Ponelopy, so I supose that counts as using her voice and body to get Odysseus to do what she wanted.

A similar thing happened in Gilgamesh when the temple prostitute seduced Enkidu. She used her body in order for him to give into temptation and for Enkidu to become civilized.

I remember when calypso used her voice and body by putting a spell on odysseus so that he would cheat on his wife

Something like that happened in the Gilgamesh story, when a temple prostitute had charmed & seduced Enkidu. Also I remember Odysseus saying in the beginning of the novel that he had met a Goddess as beautiful as where he lived. She also put her charm on him & then later left him.

I remember in the story of Gilgamesh, there was a woman who was used to distract Enkindu. I also remember we talked a little about Calypso who had charmed Oddysseus or something like that and that he spent years distracted by these women. I remember also talking about how he used this as an excuse to cheat on his wife while she remained faithful to him.

As everyone said above I remember when the woemn in Gilgamesh, Shamash used her body to distract Enkindu.
Another connection would be from the fourth Harry Potter, he Harry sets off on the second task of the Tri-Wizard Tournament when the mermaids in lake draw Harry closer to where he must go in the second task

Like everybody else said, I remember when Enkidu was civilized by the temple prostitute, who did this by seducing him. You said using their voice, so I remember how Ariel sang to Prince Eric in the little mermaid, which attracted him to her... I'm not sure if that is really relevant though.

I remember when a character in Gilgamesh used her body to persuade Enkidu.

An example of women "enchanting" men using there bodies, voices and persuasion is in the story of Adam and Eve. Eve uses her persuasion to make Adam eat the "forbidden fruit" and exiled them from the Garden of Eden. Another example of this is later on in the Torah where a wife of a tribe leader gets her husband drunk and stands naked outside of the tent so that he can stay home and not go and support a rebellion they were planning. She knows he will not survive this "battle" so she uses her feminine skills to protect him.

In the epic poem we read before this, Gilgamesh, he sent a prostitute to seduce and distract Enkidu. As well, besides what we have read in class a reality show I watched called the Hills, recently had a situation of this. One of the characters Hiedi wants kid even though she just got married to her husband Spencer & they are extremely young. Spencer completly opposes the idea and refuses to discuss it. Hiedi believes she will always get what she wants, so she actually cooks him dinner and tricks him into being seduced. This shows how Hiedi used her appeal to get her husband. Unfortunately, Hiedi did not get pregnant.

P.S. I'm posting this again b/c I didn't see it go up & I wasn't sure if you got it

In the beginning of the Odyssey, Calypso used her beauty and voice in order to put a spell on Odysseus to make him fall him love with her and not go back to his wife, which then led to Odysseus to cheat on his wife.

In Gilgamesh I remeber then woman used the bodies and voices to seduce the men, into liking them. This prostitute was used to seduce elkidud, and was sent by Gilgamesh.

While reading Gilgamesh, the temple prostitute suduces Enkidu and Enkidu suffered greatly after. Also In the Odyssey Calypso suduced odysseus with her beauty and due to that some Odysseus's men died.

The same idea of women using their bodies and voices to ensnare men is seen in the Epic of Gilgamesh when Endiku and Gilgamesh were seduced by the prostitutes at the temple.
