In the Land of the Dead, Odysseus Elphenor, his mother, and Tireseias. While Odysseus was there, he showed his grief, which he did not show at all before that scene.

Tiresias predicts that Odysseus will have to face the death of his crew and that he would have to wonder the world after he killed his wife's suitors. He also predicted that just the very thought of making it back to Ithica will be hard because Zeuse will unleash his wrath upon Odysseus.

Based on Tireseias' prediction, I believe that Odysseus will need determination to continue with his journey. This is so because after hearing about all of the horrible things that could possibly happen on that journey home, any man would probably just back down; but Odysseus didn't. If you want something enough, and you're determined to get it, then you will most likely beable to achieve it. Since Odysseus wanted to return home so badly, then with the power of determination, he will.

In the Land of the Dead, Odysseus encounters Elpenor, one of his men; Anticleia, his mother; and Tireseias, the prophet.
Odysseus displays his characteristic of being remorseful, when he breaks down after seeing that his mother had died while he was away.

Tireseias predicts that Poseidon is angry with Odysseus because he blinded his son, the Cyclops and will continue to cause him and his men problems. He says that there is a possibility for them to reach home alive, if they rely on good judgement. Most of all, they mustn't kill Helio's cattle, no matter the temptation, or they will surely be killed. Tireseias predicts that Odysseus may face the day when he reaches home, but he would be without his shipmates and find his home in disarray.

Based on Tireseias' prediction, Odysseus would need to rely on the heroic qualities of commanding his shipmates as well as not to submit under temptation. He would also have to rely on good judgement to get him home.
