I was a little confused at first.
But after I read the assignment I kind of got it.
So some of my ideas are...
-my culture
-what represents my culture
-what represents me as a Greek, Cypriot, Italian, & Irish person

And some of my questions...
-What are we supposed to do?
-What do we use to get this project done?
Are we even going to do this project?

I was alittle confused when we went over the gender roles but then i got it after we revised it twice. My ideas are that i will represent each of the most important things of my culture for example italian for food i could put pizza. I have no questiions.

i was also confused but then i understood it more once they went over it a little better the ideas i was thinking today in class was
: my culture
: what i do for my culture with my family

and i have questions, 1:Are we suppose to do it on a poster board

2: do we have to draw pictures because Mr. Nisonoff said we have to draw but i am really bad a drawing so i was wondering if i can just get pictures from the computer to make it easier:)

I was confused about the project at first. But then I understood we had to do it about our culture and what makes us, us.

So I was thinking that I would do my project on the way Irish and scottish people celebrate occassions (like Saint Patricks Day), the way some people in Ireland dress (ex. Irish Step Danders and such.), and I was also thinking about doing religion since most people in Ireland are Roman Catholic.

I think this project is a good idea because we can see a little about everybody's culture, and the two most important things for them. for that i chose family and hobbies/athletics, the only thing that im really confused on is that like should it be colored in all nicely and what not on a poster. or like a nice pencil drawing? also mr nisonoff was talking about getting pictures from magazines if you cant draw your family. so i dont get what he means like what are we supposed to get pictures of other peoples family? and thats it...

i was confused with the gender roles. then as i started to do everything else, i started to understand what the gender roles meant. i was thinking that i could do my project on judaism. like some of the holidays and customs. for example: a bat mitzvah what goes on during a bat mitzvah and how old you need to be to have one.

At first I was confused about the assignment. But after I looked it over I sort of understood it better. So I was thinking of some things that represent my culture. Maybe something like food, music, or how certain occasions are celebrated.

At first i was also confused with the gender roles but i had to read it a couple of times to understand it better. I was thinking that i can do my project about my culture and how its different from all the rest, like how italians have a whole bunch of feasts that acomidate with saints in the roman catholic church.

At first I was a bit confused as well, but after reading the assignment various times the task became clearer.

Ideas:
- Symbols I plan on choosing include religion and sports/hobbies.
- Objects I include can be gathered from my home or families homes.

Questions:
-How will this project be presented? In which format?
-What exactly does the text portion of the project include?

Some of the ideas I was thinking of doing was the kinds of tradititions my family uses, like how we celebrate Easter and Chritstmas. Also, how we go to my Grandmas house every Sunday afternoon for dinner (My Mom said it was an Italian thing, I think).

The only question I have about the project is how we will present it in the end, like if it;s supposed to be on a poster board, a plain essay, etc.

At first, like everyone else I was confused about the assignment. Once I started to brainstorm ideas I desided that I want to do my project on Greek traditions, foods, etc.. I am still confused about how exactly we are going to do the project and in what format we are going to do the project. I also don't get if we are going to do this over a long period of time or a short period of time.

>>Ideas : my culture, lik what we celebrate, and traditions
>> questions : im still a little confused because im not one hundred percent sure on how to do the project [as how it should be exactly] and lik im also not one hundred percent sure if i really want to do it on my culture and im still slightly confused about gender roles.

Edina Kay said...

I was mostly confused on the gender roles part; but after going through it a couple of times I got it. Does it mean that women & men should have equal rights or something like that? But I still haven't decided on what to do with my project yet, I was thinking sports/hobbies and maybe music. Im still not sure.

Anonymous said...

I am pretty clear on the project im probably going to do it on clothes and music, but I am not sure yet. My question is pretty much the same as rosemaire and allison. How are we going to presnt it? In what format does it have to be in? Also do we have to do it on just things, and when we write about those two things how long does it have to be?

I think this project is a really good idea. I cant wait to do it! I want to learn more about other peoples cultures as well as wanting other people to get a kind of understanding and knowing of mine.
I liked the idea of drawing in the sections that our culture makes us. I like the idea of everything and I'm looking forward to doing the project!

Jessye Pragen said...

When we were given the task today i thought it was a great idea for us to do. It gives us as a student community to see how we are similar and what aspects we are different. It also helps us learn and understand each other's culture. My favorite part was on page 25, when we had to draw our family religion etc. It shows how were unique in different ways. I cant wait to actually stat the project its self though !

At first I didn't understand what to do but when I read it a couple of times and came up with ideas. I'm thinking about doing my project on family and food or family/music& art. I started planning out what examples I want to put in my project. But I am still unsure on what to do. How do we make this project three- dimensional? When is this due?

Opal said...

I thought that our subsitute teacher was very weird and not so good, I was very confuesd at first but I got it after I read the directions couple of times. I thought the whole task in general made me think about about culture and my family a lot. It also made me think, do i really know this little about my culture or is this it? But I think it was a great experience.

Lefkios Antoniou said...

Ms.Sackstein would you like it on poster board or regular white paper?

Michelle Xia said...

I was wondering if we have to do this project like eventually. (I know it kind of sounds like a stupid question but sometimes like teachers will tell you to work on an exercise and not actually have to do it.)

secondly, by culture, do you mean like what I wear or what my ethnicty people wear. Same with all the other topics.

For this first embedded assignment in class we had to write down the skills and concepts we would need to complete this assignment. Some of the skills I wrote were artisitic representation, being able to show and explain what you are talking about in an artisitc manner. As well, as knowning the writing process to go over work and reflective. The last skill would be being able to create and collect your ideas in a clear way. Some of the concepts were to have ideas about what culture was in general, the varities of culture, and most importantly my culture. Then, with this I would use it to create and represent two symbols that show my culture, but also sum it up in a significant way.

The questions I had are basically around everyone else's because there wasn't much elaboration on the topic.
- What is the format? and just further discussion on how to complete the assignment.

ante said...

honestly i dont have a clue on what to do except for the part on drawing pictures that represent ourselves. besides that i either wasnt tuning in fully into the assignment or just didnt get it

AV said...

I hounestly thought that the assignment today wasn't that hard, in fact, it helped me think about some things about my culture that I really didn't think about too often. The only part that really through me off gaurd was the gender role, which I didn't quite understand.

Avi Solkoff said...

I as almost everybody else was unsure what to do but i now somewhat
understand. I am chosing to do my project on food/my family and
education. The part that confuses me is the 3D cultural
representation that we are supposed to do. I guess that we will learn
more about the specific details as time goes on. I like the idea and
concept that this project is trying to do. Trying to bring cultural
diffusion into America is a big part of stoping racism here and around
the world. I am actually really looking forward to this project so I
can learn about other cultures and allow others to learn about mine.

This project confuses me a little and I'm not exactly sure when we are suppossed to do this. Also if we are more than one nationality do we just choose one and do it on that? Other than that I understood what we did in class on skills and concepts and i understood what to draw in the book after Mr. LoPorto explained it to my table.

I'm kinda confused...
but the assignment made me think more about my culture, like the religion and different kinds of food. Am i suppose to do a project on this?

As i read the directions i noticed that it said that we had to create a 3D artistic dimensional representation. Does that mean that we have to draw or use a computer? All together the project is a little confusing and i would like for you to explain it to me. -Christian Segura

I drew all of my life symbols depending on what I thought represented my culture. The two most important symbols i chose are the guitar and my family.

Anonymous said...

I really cant draw for my life. so i decided to make a collage with the two things that i think represent me. Because i dont follow a lot of asian culture or french culture, i consider myself American. So i decided to pick baseball and music.

with all honesty i have no idead what im doing, im going to try my hardest but i kind of have no clue. I want to do religon and baseball but i cant see how sports relates to my culture? and this is killing me right now. I absolutly couldnt draw a thing for my life either.

At first, I was some what confused about the assignment. Considering I don't really follow a specific religion/culture. My mom is italian and my dad is jewish, so I do a little bit of both. I decided to chose family, because in both cultures and religions family is a huge aspect, and is very important. I think I might also do hobbies, or food. Since my mom is itailin, Italian food is a big deal in my family. I think this is a great project, and a great way to understand and see where everyone comes from, and how they represent themselves.
I am also a little confused on how the project is supposed to be set up. It says to make something 3D, how exactly are we supposed to do this?

Anonymous said...

After reading the task and assignments, I completely understand what we are asked to do. In class I drew things that were important to me and also as well as things that are important to my family. The only did I wasn't so clear on was the gender role part, but as to the rest I know what to do.

Now that you explained it more in class it sounds like its actually going to be a fun thing to do. I really want to be creative with it

Brianna Hungerford said...

When we first reviewed the assignment, I was pretty confused much like everyone else. Towards the end of the period, I still had some questions, but ultimately, I understood what was expected. Now, after you have explained it in class to us, I do not have any further questions and I understand what is being asked of us. I don't know how creative I can be with it because I'm not spectacular in art -- especially 3D, but I'm going to try and put as much effort into it as possible.

I fully understood the task of what we did that day, and i was wondering how we were planning to present it because i wasnt sure how to like explain whati ment, but it turned out fine, so i did understand it.

I was a little confused about the project. When I read it again I then understood that we have to writ about our cultures. I was thinking of bringing in stuff from my religion, music, food and etc. When you explained it in class I then understood it even better so I knew what I had to do.

annaLee Lee said...

I mostly understood it, but I just was unsure if we had to bring in at least one artifact or at least one thing we made out of the ten things. I was also unsure if the items had to be only about our background and culture, or our own way of life. I just hoped I got it right, but I became more sure that I did the assignment correctly.

the embedded assessment was simple and easy to under stand do a project on culture and what represent it from cultural food to religion.for example i would put a cross in my project for religion

I think this project is a great way to learn about other's cultures, traditions, and beliefs.By sharing this with our peers were becoming closer to them becaus we might understand more things about them like if someone doesnt celebrate birthdays or other holidays and they share ther traditions with us we'll understand why and maybe not look at them weird and start to undsrtand the.
some ideas I have are :
-bringing in artifacts from my house
